To live in the residence halls on campus, you need to submit an application to the Housing Office at UH Hilo. You can apply online on the Housing website. You will need your MyUH username and password to apply as well as your UH student ID number. If you do not have a MyUH username and password yet, you will learn how to get one in the next section called “Class Registration” of this online orientation. You will also need a credit or debit card to pay the required $10 application fee. If you do not have a credit or debit card, contact the Housing Office at uhhhouse@hawaii.edu and ask for an “override” so that you can apply online for housing. The Housing Office can enable you to submit an application online without a credit/debit card, and you will be billed later for the $10 housing application fee.
There is no deadline to apply, but the sooner you apply, the better since spaces are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Space in the residence halls is not guaranteed. UH Hilo currently has about 900 bed spaces, so sometimes there are not enough spaces for everyone who wants to live on-campus. Children and spouses cannot be accommodated. When you apply to live on-campus, you can request which hall you would prefer to live in. The Housing Office does its best to try to accommodate your preferences, but your first choice is not guaranteed.
