How many classes do I take?
If you are an international student on an F-1 or J-1 visa, you must take at least 12 credits per semester. If you are an international student from one of the Compact of Free Association nations, you must take at least 12 credits per semester to receive your full financial aid. We recommend that you take 15 credits per semester if you would like to graduate in 4 years.
Most classes are for 3 credits each, although some classes such as science labs may be only 1 credit or a language class may be 4 credits. Most students typically take 4 or 5 classes each semester. The maximum number of credits you can take in one semester is 18. Students on visas can take an online class, but they must enroll in at least 9 credits of face-to-face or hybrid classes each semester.
