You have several options for health insurance:
- Buy the University of Hawaiʻi student health insurance plan. For more information on this plan and to sign up, click here. Please note that there are deadlines each semester to enroll in this particular health insurance plan.
- Obtain health insurance from your home country. If you choose to do this, the health insurance plan must meet the University’s minimum requirements. You must have the health insurance company complete this form and submit it to the International Student Services office.
- Obtain health insurance from a company that offers health insurance to international students studying in the U.S. This can be the most economical way, since some of the plans are less expensive than the University of Hawai’i health insurance plan. Click here for a list of companies that provide health insurance plans for international students that meet the University’s requirements.
You will be required to provide proof of adequate health insurance during orientation in Hilo. Alternatively, you can send a copy of your health insurance to the Director of International Student Services prior to your arrival.
